A classic older clematis that has been featured in gardens for over one hundred years. The deep, violet-blue flowers mature to a mid-blue with a slightly paler central bar. The six to eight broad, overlapping tepals have slightly undulating margins papering to pointed tips. The stamens have white filaments and wine-red anthers.
